The Govt of India Stationery office was established in the year 1850 and is a subordinate office of MoHUA. it undertakes central procurement and supply of stationery articles at economical cost with control of quantity scale.

Roles of GISO

1. Selection of suitable stationery articles:
Selection of suitable stationery articles for use of offices throughout India.

2. Preparation of Specifications:
Specification of article used in printing sector and as stationery is being prepared under supervision of Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) to avoid any health hazards. The Controller of Stationery is the Chairman of the committee for these items, which are under control of BIS.

2.1 Control over consumption:
Control over the consumption for office use by supplying to the indenters is being ensured as per quantity scale prescribed by the Government.

3. Procurement:
Procurement of stationery items being made through open bidding through CPP Portal under National e-governance plan (NeGP) to maintain transparancy. GISO is the first central government office for implementation of e-procurement system in totality.

4. Inspection:
Inspecting wing of GISO carries out pre-despatch inspection to avoid acceptance of poor quality material and they also confirm the items are suitable for Government use after Lab test under BIS method.

5. Uniform cost effect:
Maintaining of uniform cost of stationery articles for Government use throughout India has been made possible by GISO.

6. Acting as a service Unit:
Many non-paying Indenters specially para military forces deployed at remote borders and sensitive areas are fully dependent on services rendered by GISO.

7. Taking part in Socio -economical development:
GISO encourages MSME development by placing order through e-procurement/GeM Portal system to SSI unit for development of small and medium Indian manufacturers as well as generating employment

8. Acting as Yard-Stick:
Other similar organizations in State level follow the practice, procedures, costing etc. which are observed by GISO.

 

VISION :

To emerge as an efficient and viable organization by procuring Stationery articles and including papers confirming to the Indian Standards(IS) from Small Scale Industries (SSI) under MSME Act and supplying of the same to all Central Government Offices in India to fulfill the ‘Make in India’ and ‘New India’ vision.

MISSION :

To sustain the socio-economic growth indirectly among the unorganized labourer engaged in SSI Units by procuring the items from SSI Units under MSME Act vis–a–vis to fulfill the ‘Make in India’ vision to achieve the ultimate of ‘New India’.
